The Journey onto the Yogic Path
From her experience with karate at age ten, Julia learned that breathing and relaxation are integral parts to flexibility and dealing with challenging life situations. She studied dance for several years, was a stage performer, and a Dance major at the University of California, Irvine. There, she studied several forms of dance, as well as Pilates and kinesiology. Much of her knowledge and emphasis in alignment stems from her dance education in proper technique and injury prevention.
Growing up, Julia always saw the commonalities between different people and their ideas. Entrenched in the idea of unity, Julia has been interested in and inspired by the idea of Om, the oneness of all beings. At the age of sixteen, it was the philosophies of the East that originally attracted her to Yoga and sparked her interest in its physical aspects, as well as the Yogic lifestyle.
She started taking Yoga class every day at the beginning of 2006, and by the end of the year, she had completed her first Yoga teacher training under the tutelage of Raghavan Dass in Santa Monica, California. She started instructing Yoga classes in 2007 on the Peninsula, and has loved every moment and is deeply grateful for all her students. In November 2008, she completed the Yoga Alliance certified 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at It's Yoga in San Francisco. She continues to educate herself by studying Yoga-related literature and taking different styles of Yoga classes throughout the area.

Recently she traveled through Southeast Asia on a volunteer holiday to work on coral reef restoration projects and explore the eight limbs of Yoga through serving the environment.
Her work overseas was recently featured in her high school's magazine and can be found on page #13 at http://www.york.org/blog/2011/7/14/break-2011-is-online.html

From kapotasana to coral fragment transplanting from a nursery to an artificial reef on Koh Tao, Thailand, Yoga goes beyond the mat and into conservation work.

Julia gratefully accepts donations to help fund her volunteer work and projects abroad. Stay tuned for her next volunteer holiday and conservation work in California.
